Though we've been here for three weeks, I just got around to snapping more detailed photos of the apartment we're renting.
It's old, beautiful, and is just the type of Paris apartment I've always wanted to live in. It's small, which is challenging at times with two toddler boys, but the exposed wood, courtyard, and huge windows more than make up for any size-related dilemmas.
I feel lucky that I get to spend a few months here, but there's a big part of me that wishes it was mine. Sigh ...
From top to bottom
One: The building's front door
Two: The gated walkway that leads back to the courtyard
Three: A view of the steps from the courtyard
Four: The steps that lead to the apartment
Five: View from the living room looking into the dining room/kitchen (the exposed wood is everywhere!)
Six: View of Rue St. Paul from the window. The Seine is at the end of the street.
Seven: The living room at night (pssst Courtney and Amy, that's a copy of Real Simple on the coffee table)

Your blog is beautiful and I will live vicariously through you. You have become my first stop on the internet in the morning, as I sit here in the midwest, sipping the first coffee of the morning. Best wishes to you and your family and keep up the great writing/blogging!
Hi Pamela!
Thanks so much. I enjoy it quite a bit when all of my American friends wake up and stop by. I am friendless in the city so to speak, so I need my net buddies.
It's made blogging a LOT easier and a whole lot more fun.
The door!
the ironwork!
the worn steps!
Paris!
Enjoy your time. Each and every minute.
Oh my oh my oh my! I too am in the American Midwest, sipping on tea, and eager each morning to read and to see your latest adventure. Thanks for sharing the beauty with us!
Hi!
I found you through twitter yesterday, and I've just spent the last 15 minutes falling in love with your blog!
Nice ta meet you,
Dot
Wow! That is a stunning place.
I'm totally jealous! I want to live in your apartment! Heck, I'll take a cardboard box, as long as it's in France (: ♥Mannie

i love the photos! i think i need to come for a visit.
seiously, ms. littlebrownpen, it is beautiful and thanks for sharing!
Beautiful. My favorite thing about France is the oldness.
The steps leading to the apartment are insane. They look like they were built circa 1500.
Your pics are beautiful. Apartment is WAY gorgeous. I SO want to live abroad with my guys. My husband and I are talking about trying it out in the summer. I'm working on fluency in Spanish, so we were thinking Costa Rica. Any advice or info. you can suggest?

My advice is to not over think it. If you do, you'll find a million reasons not to go. Of course it's difficult to pack up, move, and live in a completely new place. But you know what? Despite that, I haven't felt this alive in years. It's hard. It makes me think (language barrier!). It makes me appreciate what I have and reach for what I don't.
I would go for it!
We rented our apartment through vrbo.com and are very pleased with it.
oh my, it is so gorgeous! can i please come live with you?
Looks like such a fabulous apartment and location! I am so excited to follow your adventure of living in Paris for a few months. I would love to try that someday! My sister is living in Hong Kong temporarily, which is quite interesting to hear about.
wow, nichole...how gorgeous!! and, we wish it was yours, too...then we could all come over for a visit! :)
p.s. i agree with your advice to stuffmoms. when i lived in brussels it was one of the hardest things, and one of the greatest things that i've ever done! i would love the opportunity to do it again...
Gorgeous! Lovely photos!
What a gorgeous apartment! I just discovered your blog and am glad to have stumbled into your lovely life for a little while!
Wow your apartment is lovely! And what an amazing location. Although if I lived in the Marais I don't think I'd even get anything done, I'd be shopping all the time! x
i think i love those steps most of everything. Just going up and down on them, would make my heart race so fast...after all they are from 1500...Think about all the people (kids, lovers) that have gone up and down them...just lovely!
Your photos look pulled out of a magazine. Soak up every minute there!!
Thanks so much for sharing! It's amazing! I'm so excited for you (and jealous) that you get to have such a cool experience. And that view from your window...it's just too much.

Oh, it's gorgeous. I know exactly what you mean. It is absolutely perfectly Paris. Lovely is an understatement. Lucky you!
C'est parfait! J'adore Paris! (and your blog)
I love how worn the steps are. Your place looks exactly how I would imagine a Parisian apartment should look. Lucky you!
I'm coming over. Be right there!
That is so beautiful. Lucky girl!

Oh, I am so jealous! What a little piece of heaven you have! :)
So charming, Nichole! Thanks for giving us a snapshot (or several) of your daily view. I'm curious, though. I just want to know what the guest quarters look like before I arrive?

this is a beautiful apartment and probably not all that small by paris standards. i wouldn't mind living there either.
Dear Nichole:
This apartment looks fabulous. I have been looking for a great apartment on Rue St. Paul for a June vacation. Would you mind sharing the VRBO? If you don't want to publish it on your blog, then please email it to novembercat@mac.com
Thanks!

Hi there , I was just re-reading you adventures to Paris (of which I lived through you - thank you ) but now we are considering visiting this wonderful place and was wondering how did you find this apartment and if you could give me a few ideas on places to stay. Only we are travelling as a group of 7 (3 adults and 4 children) !!! I know WOW! Well it is just a plan at the moment.
But if we do go I'm surely going to be visiting some of the places you mentioned. Cross your fingers
thanks again
